Many thanks to all the First Year Parents and Guardians who collected their textbooks and stationary pack this morning. Thank you especially to Ms. E. Kenihan, Ms. G. O’Donoghue and the mazing team of TY students and representatives from the Parents Association that helped out on the day.
Please see below for details of the scheme and the next steps to take:
Dear Parent/Guardian,
As part of the new Junior Cycle Free Book Scheme, John the Baptist Community School is delighted to provide all 1st year students with their books and core stationary for the 2024/25 academic year.
As part of the scheme, the textbooks belong to the school and have been covered, barcoded and assigned to each student. The care of these books is of utmost importance as the books will need to be returned at the end of the student’s three-year cycle. We ask you to speak to your student about caring for the materials.
If a schoolbook is damaged beyond repair or missing at the end of their use and so cannot be used by another student, the student and their parents/guardians will be expected to replace the textbook at their own cost.
The following items have been provided:

Please note, in the coming weeks, students will also be provided with their English, Irish and French dictionaries and their option subject textbooks and workbooks (once chosen).
Next steps
- Please take a moment to check the box contents and make sure everything is correct. The 1st Year booklist is available on the school website. If you have an issue, please do not hesitate to contact schoolbooks@johnthebaptistcs.ie.
- Please label all items. It is important that all books, workbooks and copies are labelled. Please label any textbooks on the outside cover using a sticky label (please do not write on the inside of the textbooks). This is important as these books belong to the school and will be reused for students in the future. Workbooks and stationery can be labelled on the inside or outside as they belong to the student and will not be reused. We ask you also to label the calculator.

Bringing books to school
Students will not be expected to bring all of their books to school on the first day. We would advise that students bring in books as needed according to their timetable from Monday the 26th August. Please ensure that lockers have been paid for to allow students to store their books when they arrive at their base class.
A detailed “Frequently Asked Questions” section of the website responding to questions is now available and will be updated regularly: https://johnthebaptistcs.ie/free-school-books-scheme-frequently-asked-questions/
If you have any queries, please email; schoolbooks@johnthebaptistcs.ie
We look forward to seeing all First Year students on Friday.
Kind regards,
John the Baptist Community School
