Overview of Subject Area

Geography is a core subject at Junior Certificate and an option at Leaving Certificate here in JTBCS. It is a popular choice for many Leaving cert students reflected by the 3 large classes we now have taking it this year. Geography aims to introduce young people to a broad body of geographical knowledge and equip them with a wide range of practical skills. We hope to instilL a deep understanding of the physical, social and economic processes that shape our world and environment, both in historical and modern spheres. Geography is concerned with people and their environment. Therefore, the ever changing and dynamic relationship between man and its environment is central to our teaching and understanding of the subject as a whole. Each year group takes part in a field study exercise each year in preparation for their 20% project at Leaving Certificate. Our TY students experience a more hands on approach to geography with project work, model making, photography and field trips.
