Parents

We understand that parents are sometimes unsure of how to become a more active part of their child’s education so we have outlined some of the options available below.

An Education Partnership

We believe that there are four major partners who play a role in a childs education:

  1. Students
  2. Parents & Guardians
  3. The School
  4. The Community

and that each one has a major contribution to make. The philosophy of our school is to develop partnership between all these parties. Some of the practical ways that this happens are:

  • Parents Association
  • Parent representative on the Board Of Management
  • Provision of Adult Education
  • Use of school facilities by community groups
  • Local Education Committee
  • Parents Association

There are at present 20 members on our Parents Association. Members are elected such that each district has representation. Our parents association is affiliated to PACCS.

The association meet with school management and the home school liason (HSL) coordinator once a month.

The parents association act as a support to school management and represent the views of parents. Representatives have been involved in the formation of policies and in the organisation of information evenings for parents on issues such as health, parenting, third-level access & study skills. The parents association is also represented on school’s board of management.

Home School Liaison

The home school liason (HSL) coordinator is a link person between parents, students and the school. The coordinator supports parents around the transfer of their children from primary school to secondary school and also liaises with various community groups.
