Sr. Claude Meagher’s Jubilee Gift

The school received a very special gift on the 7th of October, 2013 from Sr. Claude Meagher, on the occasion of her Jubilee. Sr. Claude, a driving force in the school for some time, presented a beautiful statue of the Holy Mother Mary, to look over and care for all the students and staff of John the Baptist C.S. It has been mounted above the entrance to the school, as a constant sign of the care and devotion at the centre of the school's ethos, but also a reminder of the influence of Sr. Claude and indeed, the Presentation Sisters in John the Baptist C.S.

The Watcher – Mother

She always leaned to watch for us, Sr. Claude presents the statue to the school
Anxious if we were leate,
In winter by the window,
In summer  by the gate;

And though we mocked her tenderly,
Who had such follish care,
The long way home would seem more safe
Because she waited there.

Her thoughts were all so full of us –
She never could forget!
And so I think that where she is
She must be watching yet,

Waiting till we come home to her,
Anxious if we are late –
Watching from heaven's window,
Leaning from heaven's gate.
