Athletics Success

There has been great performances from students from all years at the recent Cross Country events and the Indoor Track and Field.
The First outing was the North Munster Cross Country held on a sunny January Afternoon (a welcomed change). A total of twenty nine students ran their hearts out which saw fourteen students qualifying for the Munster Cross Country.
Two weeks later our qualified teams, Minor Girls, Intermediate Boys along with Pa Holian who qualified as an individual in the Senior Boys, ran in difficult conditions in Clarecastle. The Minor Girls team just missed out on the medals and qualification for the All Ireland finishing fourth with fantastic performances from all six athletes. The Intermediate Boys dug deep to finish a very respectable 7th. Pa Holian finished 20th in the senior race against some of the countries top athletes which was a great effort from the Ballylanders man.
The Indoor Track and Field was held in Nenagh on the 3rd of March. Twenty seven students pulled on the the slick looking school singlets which where kindly sponsored by Bulgaden Castle. The students ran, jumped and threw themselves into medal contention. Meadhbh Hurley gave a fine performance in the Junior Girls 600m taking home the bronze medal in a very fast race. Rory Prederville, our team captain drove home in a time of 1’26” in the Senior Boys 600m taking the gold medal. Rory also led out our Senior Boys relay team to collect the silver medal. Rory ran the first leg at a blistering pace which set the standard for Luke Ryan, Sean Kirschner and Lorcan Ryans to follow. The boys stepped up to the plate and finished strong to hold on to second place. In the final event of the day, the High Jump, Geoffrey Joy O’Regan who recently made the qualifying height of 2.03m for the European U18s, put on a show for all our travelling athletes  jumping a massive 1.95m taking the gold medal.
