From its foundation, John the Baptist Community School has been committed to providing state of the art facilities for its students and the community as a whole. This is evident through the quality of the infrastructure in place since its construction in 2000.  The school’s has shown consistent commitment to developing new and modern facilities culminating in the opening of the Sr. Claude Meagher building in 2012.

Our Facilities include:

General Classrooms

The school has forty-five mainstream classrooms, each with a data projector and desktop computer. At John the Baptist Community School, we are committed to collaborative learning opportunities so every classroom is arranged to facilitate group and peer work.

Technical Rooms

  • The Technical Graphics and Design and Communication Graphics room is a fully equipped, state of the art room.  The room layout is conducive to learning as it is bright, clean and provides each student access to the resources which they require.  The room is equipped with a data projector, a high definition visualiser, 24 state of the art desktop computers with superb processing capabilities, capable of operating the latest SolidWorks software.  The computers are supported by large flat screen monitors suitable for the needs of our students. In addition, the room has access to an A3 colour printer/scanner which is reserved for the printing of D.C.G. students portfolio work.

    The room displays a wide array of Geometric shapes used to provide concrete examples to students of the topics which are covered in class. Also available are exemplary examples of student work.

    Specialist Software provided includes: Solidworks 2016, Draftsight, and Microsoft Publisher, Word, PowerPoint etc.

  • Two Materials Technology Wood rooms: These rooms provide for all students taking Materials Technology Wood at Junior Certificate and Construction Studies at Leaving Certificate.  Each room is equipped with a vast array of hand and power tools.

    Instruction is given to students on the safe and effective use of the different tool which they are permitted to use.

The school library is an excellent resource for both staff and students. Containing over a thousand books, the library features Junior and Senior fiction, Irish fiction, non-fiction texts covering a wide variety of topics, a reference section, special collections and student created books. The library is also the centre of many literacy and numeracy activities throughout the year such as days celebrating authors, Drop Everything and Read sessions, Maths Week, World Book Week and the MSReadathon. All First Year English classes visit the library at least once a week for quiet reading time, while subsequent years visit at various intervals throughout the year. Absolute silence is expected in the library at all times.

Science Laboratories

The school has five dedicated science laboratories, each with separate chemical storage rooms.

Demonstration room

This lecture style auditorium is perfect for demonstrations but also for visiting guests, talks and group activities. This room is capable of hosting a larger number of students than a traditional classroom. The room is regularly used to host guest speakers, including University representatives and Science shows.
